Job profile for a Conference Producer

As a conference producer for a commercial conference organisation the primary role is the research and developement for the programme of each event. Many companies then require the producer to develope and project manage the overall delivery of the programme. The producer will work with and lead a team of logistics, sales and marketing personnel to ensure the event is run in such away that ensures mazimum success and indeed, maximum profit. This role combines the ability to research and develop brand new topics and the ability to assimilate new information quickly is paramount. As well as the topic aspects, a primary role of the producer is to formulate a programme that appeal both to potential delegates and the targeted sponsorship market. Aquistition of leading speakers is therefore key to a successful conference. The producer may also have a key role in the copy writing of marketing material. Notably the website, the programme and some of the sales emails and letter. As the member of the team who is most offay with the content, they are often best placed to do this. Events are organised months in advance so that the marketing and sales team have enough time to spread the word. This means that at any one time a producer could be project managing several events whilst putting the agenda together for another. It can be a high pressure industry but the rewards can be high. Starting salary across the sector for a recent graduate is around £20,000 - £22,000 but the opportunities for career advancement are strong, even in a downturn. Most organisations also have a profit share scheme whereby producers recieve a percentage of the profits made from the event. Though this won't be paid out until after the event has run.
