DIP workers, work with adult substances misusers who are within the criminal justice system. DIP clients are often assessed at police stations, court and prison. they are often only allowed to access DIP drug treatment if they have tested positive for cocaine and/or opiates when tested on arrest at the police station or have reported having drug issues which they would like to address. treatment is often not volunatry and they are required to attend drug treatment appointments as part of a restriction of their bail condition or as part of a drug rehabilitation order (DRR). failure to comply with terms of the order granted by the court could result in a custodial sentence. DIP workers support adult substance misusers and make referrals to appropriate treatment services.
