Job profile for a Emergency Planning Officer

This description is a few years old but will give you a flavour Main Duties/Responsibilities 1. To maintain, review and revise the Council’s Emergency Plan. This will include consultation, plan validation, testing and revisions, as necessary, to ensure the Council can respond effectively to a major incident. In addition, to act as document controller for the Plan. 2. To take the lead in implementing the relevant requirements of the Civil Contingencies Act. 3. To co-ordinate the production and validation of departmental emergency plans. 4. To organise, deliver and participate in exercises designed to test the Council’s response to emergency situations. 5. To carry out risk assessments of potential emergency situations. 6. To act as the Council’s Liaison Officer for outside agencies such as the blue light services and Lancashire County Council’s Emergency Planning Department. 7. To be the Council‘s representative on County wide emergency planning groups, working parties, liaison groups, or similar. 8. To be responsible for disseminating emergency planning information throughout the Council, including changes to County emergency plans. 9. To chair and lead the work of the Council’s various emergency planning groups. 10. To maintain emergency planning as high profile with Council officers and Members. 11. To identify and prioritise emergency planning training needs of Council officers and Members. To organise the required training and to carry out any required training relating to basic principles and practice etc. Continued 12. To ensure that the Emergency Control Centre is fit for purpose and maintained in a state of readiness to be activated in the event of a major incident. 13. To work out of hours as called upon to assist the Council’s response to a major incident. Also to be the first point of contact of the Council at the time of a major incident.
