Companies and Meritocracy: Rewarding Success

Many employees have had issues over the years with their companies, and how effective they are at identifying success and those who do well.

We have all had jobs where those that do well and get up are those that can manage their boss well and talk the talk, or are simply company favourites, whilst many feel that their work goes unnoticed and unrecognised but in fact that they are really good.

It is certainly true that many people who get on and do the job are so busy doing it that they can go 'under the radar' and therefore not get recognition, whilst many who are always only too eager to say how busy they are and always 'seem busy' can get away without being that productive but getting big rewards.

With this in mind, we asked employees how good they thought their company is at identifying just who their key staff are. Here is the results split by age. What is most surprising is that most people actually think their companies do an OK job; before the survey we had anticipated a lot more people thinking their company did not do a good job, with a general negative bias expected. Instead the result is firmly neutral, and in fact in the over 45 age group people tend to think their companies do a good job of identifying who are their best employees.
