Acquisition

Acquisition in the financial context means pretty much the same as in general english - it is when an asset of some sort is purchased, and the rights to that asset are passed on to the purchaser.

It could be for instance the purchase of a whole bank, or it could be simply buying some property.

Acquisition can also refer to, at the smaller level, simply getting new accounts. When a new customer opens an account then that is deemed to be an acquisition too. It is probably more commonly used though to refer to a takeover or similar where one company takes over another.
