Electronic banking

Electronic banking refers to when banks interact with each other and funds are moved through sophisticated and secure computer systems.

This is as opposed to physical assets such as cash or even cheques changing hands. The current modern system is built massively on technology and a move back to the old form of payments with the amount, number and types of trades performed today would not be possible.
