Gateway

If you work in the world of ATMs or computing then the term gateway may be familiar; in a sense it is more technical than a financial term but however for those in branches and IT systems in banking gateway is an important concept.

This is simply a way for one machine to access information elsewhere on another machine, but crucially without having to make a separate connection (such as dialling up via the internet). These are often used in ATM machines.
