Working Tax Credit

Working tax credit is a type of extra income from the goverment (a credit), and it is for those who earn a low salary.

Therefore the purpose of this credit is to reward you for working and to top up your earnings so that you are able to meet the costs of living in the UK more readily.

There are different types of people who can clai mthis, for instance you may be employed by another company or you might be self-employed. There are other factors that might increase how much you can get, to, such as:

- Being a parent
- Paying for childcare
- You're aged over 50 and/or disabled in some way

There are various ways to claim, but essentially you will need to get what is called a 'claim pack' which you can get sent through the post by phoning the relevant government helpline.
