Float

Float refers to a cash balance that sort of floats as it were in the company.

Often the float is is made up of small cash balances that appear due to a time lag in the processing payments stage.

Float can be used generically to refer to a small cash balance that a company keeps to pay out small petty cash expenses - such as for stationery etc that is needed.
